Tue, 22 May 2007 13:00:38 +0300 - Relations between Zimbabwe and China are set to further strengthen as the two countries have entered into new areas of co-operation.
China and Zimbabwe have strengthened co-operation in areas of broadcasting following talks between the Zimbabwe broadcasting holdings chief executive officer Mr Henry Muradzikwa and his Chinese counterpart vice president of the china central television Mr Zhang Changming in Beijing China today.
Mr Muradzikwa indicated to his host that Zimbabwe is in the process of reconstructing its economy as well as the broadcasting facilities but this process has been negatively affected by continued denigration from western countries through sanctions and negative publicity.
The broadcasting chief executive officer further indicated that Zimbabwe is determined to soldier on by countering the negative publicity hence plans are at an advanced stage to open a new radio station that will tell the story of Zimbabwe to the world in a true manner.
He also indicated that his country is keen to draw lessons from the Chinese experience on how to improve broadcasting in order to better serve the people.
The vice president of the Chinese central television Mr Zhang Changming said china is willing to offer exchange programmes and to host broadcasting personnel from Zimbabwe in order to assist in the improvement of broadcasting standards for Zimbabwe.
He further extended his gesture of appreciation to the Zimbabwean government for airing Chinese programmes
on ZBC as this has helped the Chinese people in Zimbabwe to keep abreast with matters at home.
Mr zhang changming said CCTV is eager to air
Zimbabwean television programmes in china in order to help counter the monopoly that western countries have over reporting on Zimbabwean and African issues.
The Chinese central television boasts of sixteen channels with specialised functions which include law education, news, entertainment, science and technology .
Later at a dinner hosted for the Zim delegation by the president of the china central television, CCTV president offered training facilities for ZBH staff in technical, production and journalism areas.
He said that one factor that has united Zimbabwe and china over the years is the similarities in historical development.
Like Zimbabwe, china fought for independence from foreign advisories and concentrated on rural development.
In his response Mr Muradzikwa said in fighting against sanctions and other punitive measures being taken by the west against Zimbabwe the country has a lot to learn from china especially under the look east policy. |
