The coal-mining town of Hwange is celebrating once more! After a heart-stopping campaign in the Southern Region Division One, Hwange FC have punched their ticket back to the Zimbabwe Castle Lager Premier Soccer League, igniting a wave of euphoria that has been felt in the Colliery in years.

To the town, this isn’t just a promotion; it is a spiritual homecoming. The streets are alive once more with passionate fans beating drums and the timeless chants of “we are back”.

For a town built on coal and football, the return of Chipangano feels like a triumphant echoes of the golden era—breathing life back into the legendary ghosts of past greats like Posani Sibanda, Roderick Simwanza, Amos Rendo, and lately Method Mwanjali and Marvellous Nakamba and the other immortal heroes who once turned the Colliery Stadium into an absolute fortress.

The decisive battle came at White City Stadium against a fiercely stubborn Bulawayo Warriors side. Knowing that promotion was within touching distance, Chipangano played with the fierce pride of a club carrying the hopes of an entire province.

The breakthrough arrived in a pulse-raising first half when Shawn Chabika etched his name into Hwange folklore, slotting home a crucial goal that put the visitors in the command seat. What followed was a masterclass in defensive resilience. As Bulawayo Warriors threw everything forward in search of an equaliser after the restart, a rock-solid Hwange backline and a heroic goalkeeping display slammed the door shut.

Players knew that second placed Talen Vision was breathing down their neck and could not afford to slip. Talen Vision too was not going to give Chipangano the title on a silver platter. They led 1-0 against an already relegated Bosso90, then conceded to make the scoreline 1-1 giving the Hwange fans a glimmer of hope. Then disaster struck as Talen scored to make it 2-1 making the Chipangano game a must win to clinch the title

This time Hwange held on with a pure masterclass defensive display.

When the referee finally blew the final whistle, it uncorked a dam of pure emotion. Fans poured over the barriers, storming the pitch in a sea of ecstasy, beating drums, and singing songs of victory to celebrate an unforgettable return to the elite league.

This glorious triumph tastes all the sweeter following the bitter heartache of last season, when promotion slipped through their fingers to Bulawayo Chiefs. But true to the indomitable spirit of the coal miners, Chipangano dusted themselves off, dug deep, and mounted a magnificent comeback campaign.

Securing promotion with a game to spare, Hwange dominated match day 33 in staggering fashion:

• Matches Played: 33

• Victories: 23

• Draws: 7

• Defeats: Just 3

• Points: An imposing 76 points

• Defensive Wall: Only 7 goals conceded all season!

Holding off a fierce challenge from official runners-up Talen Vision, Hwange proved they were head and shoulders above the rest, becoming the very first of the regional champions to seal their Premier League status.

Hwange Colliery has long mastered the art of the comeback. While the club has endured its share of relegation heartbreak over the decades, the coal miners have an unbreakable DNA—they always find a way back to the top.

As the town celebrates deep into the night, the elders nod with satisfaction, seeing a glimpse of the fearless football once played by Sibanda, Simwanza, and Rendo in the younger generation of Chipangano stars. The giants are back where they belong, and the Premier League better be ready for the thunderous roar of Hwange!
